Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use your product?

Our meal bases are easy to use. Simply add it during cooking like you would for seasonings, pastes, soup bases and sauces. Follow the 3 Easy Steps on the back of the pack to create your healthy meals, or use as marinades for protein sources, vegetables, or to flavour grains.

How are your product ingredients different from regular seasoning blends?

Our products are expertly crafted to only use ingredients that are healthy for you and nothing else because we believe in having flavours that put your health first.

There is no added salt, no added sugar and we use premium, natural plant-based ingredients including yeast, fruit and vegetable in our products that are not used in regular seasoning blends. Our products contain only whole foods and have absolutely no filler ingredients, preservatives or additives.

Isn't sodium required in our diet? Why no added salt?

We only require a relatively small amount of sodium for our body to function. Sodium is naturally present in many foods. The adequate intake is 460-920mg for adults and children 14-17yo, 400-800mg for children 9-13yo, 300-600mg for children 4-8yo and 100-300mg for children 1-3yo. However, the average intake is at almost double the recommended upper limit to reduce risks of chronic disease.

Excess sodium intake is linked with increased risks of high blood pressure (hypertension) which is a major risk factor for heart disease including heart failure, kidney disease, stroke, stomach cancer, osteoporosis and fluid retention (oedema). One teaspoon of salt (sodium chloride), approximately 5 grams, contains 2000mg of sodium.

We know you care about your health and we do too which is why all our meal bases have no added salt!

Why no added sugar?

Our products have no added sugar and free sugar - both are associated with increased risks of chronic disease. Free sugar includes added sugars (added forms of dextrose, fructose, sucrose, lactose, sugar syrups and fruit syrups) and sugars in honey and fruit juice.*

The WHO recommends limiting free sugar intake:
"In both adults and children, WHO recommends reducing the intake of free sugars to less than 10% of total energy intake (strong recommendation). WHO suggests a further reduction of the intake of free sugars to below 5% of total energy intake (conditional recommendation)"
Guideline: sugars intake for adults and children https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/9789241549028

Why do you not use potassium chloride?

Potassium chloride is a sodium chloride (salt) substitute. However it comes with a certain degree of unpleasant bitter and metallic taste. We strongly believe that flavours can come naturally from herbs, spices, fruit and vegetable. This aligns with healthy dietary patterns such as the Mediterranean and DASH dietary patterns which are associated with reduced risks of chronic disease.

Furthermore potassium chloride may not be suitable for individuals who are are susceptible to high potassium in their blood (hyperkalaemia) such as those with kidney, heart conditions or on certain medications. So for all these reasons we have chosen to not use potassium chloride in our products.

What is the potassium content?

Yeast, fruit, vegetable, herbs and spices naturally contain potassium. Potassium content of:

  • Thai Green Curry Meal Base per 6.25g serve is 98mg and 1563mg per 100g
  • Korean Bibimbap Meal Base per 6.25g serve is 101mg and 1612mg per 100g
  • Vietnamese Pho Meal Base per 6.25g serve is 80mg and 1283mg per 100g

The back of pack recipes are designed to help you meet 2.5 serves of vegetables in each meal. For those that are required to restrict their potassium intake, please consult your health professional such as peeling and boiling vegetables beforehand to leach out some of the potassium.
